I’ve noticed many yoga teachers make the mistake of lowering their rates, thinking it will attract more students—only to end up struggling to generate enough revenue to sustain their business.
How Much to Charge for Zoom Yoga Class?
If there’s one piece of advice I always give to yoga teachers, it’s this: never teach for free. Your time and expertise are valuable, regardless of your experience level. While your niche and background will influence your online yoga classes price, your sessions should never be free—even for a trial class.
With years of experience teaching yoga on Zoom and running a successful online yoga business, I’ve learned what works. My corporate business background has been a huge asset in developing effective pricing strategies. While it may be tempting to compare your rates with others, it’s essential to set a price that reflects your expertise, time, and the value you provide. The right pricing strategy not only helps you attract students but also ensures you can make money teaching yoga online in a sustainable way.
The type of class you offer plays a huge role in determining your online yoga class price. Here’s a breakdown of different formats and their pricing structure:
The class format and length directly impact the cost of online yoga classes. A 60-minute session will naturally be priced higher than a 30-minute one, as it requires more time, energy, and planning.
When teaching yoga virtually, I recommend sticking to a consistent class format to attract the right students. A 30-minute class appeals to a different audience than a 90-minute session, so having a clear structure can make your pricing more effective.
However, if you plan to offer different class lengths, here is an example of online yoga classes charges:

The calculation of online yoga class cost has the same logic as starting a yoga studio, which means there is a cost that you carry and need to consider in your net profit calculation.
Your online classes aren’t just about your time and expertise—it also includes the expenses required to run your business. Many yoga teachers overlook these costs when setting their rates, leading to underpricing their services and struggling to make a profit.
Here are some essential online tools and expenses to consider:
Another important factor to consider when calculating your online yoga class cost is who your audience is. Are you targeting beginners looking for general flexibility or advanced practitioners seeking specialized guidance? Do you work with athletes, seniors, or people with specific health conditions?
The more specialized your niche, the more you can charge. For example, a therapeutic yoga session for back pain or prenatal yoga will typically have a higher price than a general vinyasa flow class. Your students’ needs and expectations should align with your pricing, ensuring they see the value in what you offer.
Researching online yoga prices within your niche and target market is essential for setting a competitive yet profitable rate. While it's helpful to see what others charge, avoid pricing too low just to compete—this can undervalue your expertise. Instead, focus on what makes your offer unique and price accordingly.
Additionally, consider regional differences in pricing. For example, I cater to an international audience, so I don’t base my prices on the Indian market (where I am currently based), as the purchasing power varies significantly.
Similarly, a yoga teacher in the U.S. might charge higher rates than one in Southeast Asia due to the difference in cost of living and market demand. Always align your pricing with your target audience rather than just your location.
You might have noticed that I placed your value as the last point—not to diminish its importance, but to emphasize that business strategy and numbers come first. Many yoga teachers struggle with self-confidence or feel guilty about “overcharging” (when in reality, their prices are perfectly reasonable!). Your unique value is the icing on the cake—it’s what sets you apart, but it should come after you’ve structured your pricing logically.
So, what makes your classes stand out? If you provide class recordings, personalized feedback, customized sequences, access to a private community, or additional services like life coaching or dietary guidance (if you have relevant qualifications), these extras can justify a higher online yoga class fee. Students are willing to invest more when they receive additional value beyond just the live session.
For example, an individual online yoga class that includes:
- Live session
- Class recording
- Q&A support
- Dieting support or home ractice guidance
...can be priced significantly higher than a standalone live class because it offers ongoing support and resources. Always highlight the benefits of your classes so students understand exactly what they’re paying for!
Setting up pricing includes considering payment plans. Whether you are teaching yoga online or selling pre-recorded sessions, offering payment plans is a great option to guarantee your monthly income while making your services more accessible to students.
For example, I teach online yoga therapy individual sessions and charge upfront for 10, 20, or 30 classes. This approach benefits both me and my students:
Choosing the right payment plan can make your online yoga classes or courses more accessible while ensuring a steady income. Offering flexible options helps attract more students and encourages long-term commitment. Here are 10 effective payment plans to consider:
Encourage long-term commitment by offering a discount for purchasing multiple sessions upfront. Example: A single session is $75, but a 10-class package is $700 ($70 per session).
Charge a fixed monthly fee for a set number of sessions. Example: $250/month for four private sessions ($62.50 per class instead of $75).
Allow students to split payments over time, making higher-ticket offers more accessible. Example: A 10-session package for $700 can be paid in two installments of $350.
Encourage students to bring a friend by offering a discount or cashback. Example: A student who refers a friend gets $20 off their next month’s subscription.
Increase value by combining live sessions with on-demand access. Example: $200/month for four live sessions plus access to a library of pre-recorded classes.
Set up a recurring payment system so students are charged automatically each month, ensuring steady income and ongoing access. Example: A $150/month membership auto-renews, providing continuous access to live group classes.
Reward long-term students with special pricing for continued commitment. Example: After six months of continuous enrollment, students receive 10% off future sessions.
Offer a discount for students who book in advance. Example: A 12-week program costs $400 if booked a month early but increases to $450 after the deadline.
Provide flexible pricing options for students with different financial situations. Example: A standard rate of $120 per session, but students in need can opt for a $90 sliding-scale rate.
Encourage full payments upfront by offering a discount. Example: Instead of $600 for three months of private sessions, offer a $550 pay-in-full option.
Now that you have estimated your hourly rate, I am going to give you one final exercise—one that is often overlooked even by many experts. This is your monthly revenue goal and the reverse calculation of your hourly charge.
There are a few reasons why you need to do this:
Let’s break this down step by step:
Step 1: Set Your Monthly Revenue Goal: First, decide how much you want to earn each month.
Step 2: Factor in Business Expenses: Calculate your monthly costs (Zoom, website hosting, payment platform fees, scheduling tools, etc.).
Step 3: Set Your Monthly Available Teaching Hours: Decide how many hours per month you can realistically teach.
Step 4: Use the Above Formula to Calculate Your Minimum Hourly Rate: (Monthly Revenue Goal + Expenses) ÷ Available Teaching Hours = Hourly Rate
Step 5: Compare Both Numbers: and analyze what they reveal about your pricing and workload.
Here is a possible situation:
Your originally calculated hourly charge is significantly lower than the one based on your monthly revenue goal. For example, your private session charge is $55, but you need at least $80 per hour to meet your target. In this case, you might need to adjust your rates or increase class offerings. Or maybe you just graduated from your YTT, and $55 is what you are planning to charge. In this case, set a two-year plan and gradually increase your prices until you meet your target.
